  미국 국가

미국 전역을 들썩이게 하는 대표 이벤트 중 하나가 미식축구 결승전인 슈퍼볼입니다.

슈퍼볼 하면 '어느 팀이 우승할 것인가?', '이번 시즌 슈퍼볼의 초당 광고 비용은 얼마인가?'

라는 것과 더불어서 '누가 미국 국가를 부르는가?'라는 것도 주요 관심사 중 하나입니다.

많은 이들이 미식축구 경기에서 미국 국가를 불렀지만,

개인적으로는 머라이어 캐리와 휘트니 휴스턴이 불렀을 때가 가장 인상적이었습니다.

간략히 미국 국가를 이야기하자면 제목은 '별이 빛나는 깃발'(The Star-Spangled Banner),

즉, 성조기입니다. 미국 독립전쟁에 참가한 프랜시스 스콧 키이가 독립전쟁의 어느 일화를 바탕으로

1814년 작사했고, 원곡은 영국의 권주가라고 합니다.

이 노래는 영국과 치열한 전쟁 상황을 묘사한 것임에도 불구하고,

머라이어 캐리는 '감미롭고 화려하게', 휘트니 휴스턴은 '부드러우면서 당당하게' 소화해냈습니다.

그리고 미국은 가수들이 국가(國歌)를 다양한 스타일로 부르는 것이 허용되어 있습니다.

우리 나라에서는 몇몇 가수들이 자유로운(?) 형식으로 애국가를 부르다 

일부 사람들로부터 항의를 받곤 했던 기억이 있습니다.

실제로 미국 뿐만 아니라 다른 여러 나라들이

자신의 국가를 두고 변주곡 혹은 편곡 등으로도 연주되고 불립니다
